-- a big contest among audiologists
The audiologists had a big challenge. It was to make the
best hearing aid mold. This contest took place recently.
The judges, judging these blind entries were from the
faculty at Vanderbilt University and University of Pittsburgh.
The winner was an audiologist from Oregon. What does the
best hearing aid mold mean? That there would be no
whistling and that the mold would be very comfortable
when inserted into the ear!
-- who was the person that flew from Alaska to Florida?
It was mentioned in DeafDigest that a graduate from
Florida School for the Deaf and Blind, now living in
Alaska, attended the big event at the school this
past week. Who was that person? It was Glen Frankel,
who played football for his school during the late
seventies. He said the money he spent on the big
trip was worth it. There were many past school football
players, among 1,000 people, that watched the big
game between two big deaf teams.
-- our deaf investors
We have some deaf investors. They do not invest in
the stock market. They also do not invest in real
estate. What do they invest in? Baseball cards!
A joke? No, one deaf person purchased nearly $5,000
for a 1954 Topps set of baseball cards. Value nowadays?
About $20,000! What about Dummy Hoy cards. That
deaf investor tried several times but was out-bid.
He has his own tricks to win bids on some of his cards.
What about other deaf investors of cards? Some collect
NASCAR cards. Some of them get together at the National
Sports Collectors Convention. Interpreters? No. When
one of them want to make a live bid, he would ask
the convention employee to sit with him to update
him on bids!
