-- the replacement interpreter is a BIG shock
South Africa's African National Congress has hired
Garrett Morris to interpret for the deaf at big
future national events. He replaces Thamsanqa Jantjie,
the notorious fake interpreter. But there is a big
shock. The new interpreter has not interpreted for
the deaf since 1970's! Why would the government
hire an interpreter who has forgotten sign language?
South Africa has many other much better interpreters,
yet they are being ignored.
-- A good or a bad deaf joke in Washington, DC
Rep. Kevin Yoder (R-Kan) was speaking to a
deaf group on the Capitol Hill in Washington, DC
He said "Do I need to double-check though that
the sign language interpreter actually is an
interpreter?". Yet, people thought his joke
was not funny. Anyway, he and Rep. Mark Takano
(D-Calif) are both trying to establish a
Congressional Deaf Caucus. Is it successful?
This group is looking, looking and looking for
more deaf members!
-- a disease in the Deaf Community
Are we, the deaf, suffering from a disease?
Fake interpreting in South Africa; a person
hired in Arkansas as interpreter despite no
sign language skills; a person, pretending
to be an interpreter, fingerspelling S-A-T-U-R-N
in a TV commercial years ago; a person with no
ASL skills making money selling sign language
kits off the internet! Are all of these a
disease we, the deaf, are suffering? Interpretitis?
