DeafDigest Mid-Week edition, May 13, 2014   -- An event at Twitter headquarters praising a deaf-owned business This is the National Small Business Week. An event took place at the Twitter's Mid-Market headquarters that recognizes America's small businesses. During that event, a deaf-owned business was brought up and praised - the Mozzeria, a restaurant that serves pizza and operated by Russ and Melody Stein. It is located in San Francisco.   -- a deaf pro golfer not giving up Deaf golfer Kevin Hall is not giving up on his pro golf career despite struggles in recent years. He is trying again at the U.S. Open Qualifier this week, hoping to make it to this big tournament. In the meantime he is trying to make it with the minor league NGA satellite tour. Hall is a great golfer but competition among with hearing golfers is intense. How good is Hall? He won the Big Ten championship in 2004. And once he competed in a major deaf golf championship, and laughed his way into a very easy win, by about 20-25 strokes! He was invited to compete in a couple of major golf tournaments some years back but failed to make the cut. Why? Competition and competition!   -- Refusing to provide interpreter may cost $500,000 Michael Argenyi, who is deaf and is a former medical sudent at Creighton University (NE), had to pay for interpreters out of his pockets. The university refused to pay, forcing him to drop out and to file a lawsuit. While he won the lawsuit, the jury would not give him monetary damages. He appealed and won – thus possibly costing the university nearly half million dollars. The university, however, may appeal – and what this means, it may end up in the Supreme Court, several years away. A very ugly case – same as the famous Rowley case!
