DeafDigest - 13 November 2013

DeafDigest Mid-Week edition, November 13, 2013   -- Future Gallaudet students walk across street to watch movies! The booming Union Market is across the street from the Gallaudet campus. It used to be known as the DC Farmers Market. A developer has just announced plans for a multiple-screen movie theater on the Union Market property. This would mean that Gallaudet students, wanting to watch captioned movies, can just walk across the street! This theater is scheduled to open in 2015.   -- A Leap Motion for the deaf? Will Leap Motion help the deaf? Exactly what is Leap Motion? It is a new device that is being designed by two Australians. It is supposed to be worn around the users' necks and "read" sign language - to make communications easier between the deaf and the hearing. This device is still being developed and these two Australians are looking for investment money. One disadvantage - wearing it around the neck can be quite tiresome!   -- A push-button vote on deaf friendly or unfriendly businesses Many businesses are deaf-friendly. Many other businesses are not deaf-friendly. A new app - AbleRoad - is being designed by a group in Waltham, MA. It will allow deaf users to press on the app to vote if the business is deaf-friendly or deaf-unfriendly. Will businesses be scared? No, if the app has just few users. Yes, if the app has millions and millions of users!   Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/deafdigest1 Twitter: @deafdigest 11/10/13 Blue edition at: http://35.182.75.222/category/newsletter/newsletter-blue-newsletter/ 11/10/13 Gold edition at: http://35.182.75.222/category/newsletter/newsletter-gold-newsletter/
