-- a deaf irony at Texas State University
Brian Guendling was a member of the football team
at Texas State University. While he is not deaf, he
became friends with some of the deaf people in the
area. He learned how to sign-sing some songs for
them - and which led to the establishment of the
Deaf Section at the football stadium. The irony -
he quit the football team!
-- a state commissioner learning about needs of deaf-blind
Rene Pellerin, a deaf-blind activist and a contributing
writer to the DeafDigest Gold editions, had a meeting with
the new Commissioner for Vermont Department of Aging and
Independent Living. Just the two of them plus two
interpreters. The commissioner was puzzled - why two
interpreters? She then realized that signing for the deaf
blind is exhausting, hence the reason for the switch
of interpreters at regular intervals. When the meeting
ended, the Commissioner learned all she needed to know
about the needs of the DeafBlind, especially communications!
Rene said - Advocacy in Action!
