-- deaf people of Aetoloacarnania, Greece
Aetoloacarnania, a city of 210,000 people in Greece, has
about 340 people getting monthly disability checks because
of their deafness. A private agency, overseeing these monthly
checks, suspects many of them are faking their deafness! These
people were asked to show up at the agency for audiological
tests but many of them did not show up. Greece is broke, and
many people, both deaf and hearing, are desperate for money.
-- a reward for winning Deaflympics gold medals
When Americans win Deaflympics gold medals, they get congratulations.
But when athletes from Kenya win gold medals, they get checks by
Safaricom, one of the nation's biggest corporations. Six Kenyan gold
medal winners received checks of $6850.00 each. (in US dollars). Five
silver medal winners were received checks of $3425.00 each. Our best
athletes stay home because of fund raising problems.
-- a sickening deaf prank
Someone, with a sick mind, has been pranking a family home in Sanford,
Florida, where one of the children is deaf. Several fake video relay
911 calls reached the county emergency office, asking for help at
that home. The police officers have been trying to catch the prankster,
but it is difficult as technology cannot easily catch the location of
the third telephone line that the prankster uses.
