DeafDigest - 14 January 2014

DeafDigest Mid-Week edition, January 14, 2014 -- American Correctional Association ignoring the deaf needs? We have many deaf prisoners. This is sad, but still, they have rights, just the same as hearing prisoners having their own rights. Deaf prisoners need interpreters, web cams, captions, social workers that know the deaf, etc. Well, at the American Correctional Association annual convention last year, there were about 100 different workshops. None dealt with deaf issues! Possibly the reason why more deaf prisoners file lawsuits.   -- disappearing captions on mobile devices! A subscriber told DeafDigest editor that captions you see on computer would not show up on Blackberry Playbook. It still would not play even if there is a CC logo on the top right. Adobe? They took down Flash Player from Google Play because software has not been fully developed. Bad news for deaf people that rely on mobile devices? Seems so!     -- interpreters' scariest moments! What would be the interpreters' scariest moment? This is not a joke. There was a workshop, taking place in Texas, titled "Don't Shoot Me!. I'm innocent. I'm the interpreter." This workshop trains interpreters on what to do when there are shots being fired. DeafDigest hopes this never happens.   Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/deafdigest1 Twitter: @deafdigest 01/12/14 Blue edition at: http://deafdigest.com/category/newsletter/newsletter-blue-newsletter/ 01/12/14 Gold edition at: http://deafdigest.com/category/newsletter/newsletter-gold-newsletter/
