- a deaf person grows the best vegetables in town
Molly Smith, who is deaf, won the vegetable growing competition
at the Houghton Feast at Tyne and Wear, a town in Great Britain.
The judges said she was the best with giant leeks, onions and
cauliflowers. Her biggest onion weighs 9 lbs. What was so
amazing about Molly? She is only 9 years old, and she beat
out these experienced gardeners, all much older than her.
How did she learn gardening? Her grandfather is an
experienced gardener and she learned everything from him.
-- deaf persons suddenly becoming hearing?
Is it possible for a deaf person to suddenly become hearing?
DeafDigest is not talking about a hearing aid or a CI.
Audiologist Mick Lager, in a story, said yes - reasons
could be a blow to the head, genetics playing tricks,
a loose object in the ear tubes, etc. Is it great to become
hearing after being deaf for many years? Not always. Noise
from everywhere could drive the ex-deaf person nuts! A
hearing person is used to constant noise, not always with
an ex-deaf person.
-- more deaf centers in Great Britain closing up
For years the Royal Association for Deaf People helped
fund the deaf centers across Great Britain. Because of
budget problems, funding has stopped. As a result
these deaf centers are being closed up. The association
priorities have changed - instead of money for deaf
centers, money will go to deaf people in need of
assistance.
