DeafDigest Mid-Week edition, September 14, 2016 -- posters from an angry deaf activist Steven Heard, is a deaf New Zealander. He gets angry when dog walkers, in a park near his home, do not clean up dog messes. As a volunteer, he picks up about 50 dog bags per day! Fed up, he put up signs. As a result, hearing neighbors now hate him and have threatened him and have called the cops on him. Do see the signs at: http://deafdigest.com/dog-clean-up-signs/   -- new captioning technology fails movie theater owner New captioning equipment was delivered to a Toronto movie house to show captions on three independent films. The problem was that new technlogy was so confusing that the projector operator did not know how to use it! As a result - no captions, thus angering a group of deaf people that arrived at the theater.   -- important comments by a police officer At a police training workshop in Alabama, Tuscaloosa Police Sgt. Lachlan Chronister made important points - cops must understand deaf facial expressions and hand gestures; cops MUST not use flashlights at deaf persons' faces, preventing lipreading; a shoulder tap does not mean deaf person wants to fight; cops must understand deaf culture, deaf communication and deaf language. Officer Chronister knew nothing about the deaf but learned very fast, and he teaches at workshops.   Latest deaf jobs: http://deafdigest.com/category/jobs/ Barry's collections of past articles (with today's update) -- deaf medical doctors http://deafdigest.com/collections/barrys-collections/ 09/11/16 Blue and Gold editions at: http://deafdigest.com/newsletters/
