DeafDigest - 15 April 2015

DeafDigest Mid-Week edition, April 15, 2015   -- a perfect deaf role model Yesterday's DeafDigest ran a story about a successful deaf landlord with his own rental properties. It was learned that years ago he had several tenants that were deaf. They learned all about real estate from this deaf landlord; currently each of them own several rental houses! This deaf landlord is certainly a role model for deaf interested in a rental properties.     -- a funny police report about deaf New Minas is a small town, of just 5,000 people in Nova Scotia, Canada. Very possibly few hearing people may have met a deaf person in their lives in that small town. Anyway, a deaf man entered a restaurant. For some reason, he waved his arms. Someone reported this incident to the police. They came over, realized the person was deaf and they let him go without arresting him or charging him with disturbing the peace.   -- a desperate interpreting situation in one state A web posting about interpreters for the deaf in Oklahoma was not good news. It said the state has 335 school districts with deaf students. And that between 100 and 200 interpreters may not be able to meet interpreting standards. This story was just saying that more money is needed from the State Legislature to upgrade interpreting standards. Is there a quick solution? Yes, there is a certain school in Sulphur, Oklahoma - the Oklahoma School for the Deaf!   Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/deafdigest1 Twitter: @deafdigest for subscription changes, go to http://deafdigest.com, click "subscribe" icon & follow screen instructions past Mid-Week editions: http://deafdigest.com/category/mid-week-news/ 4/12/15 Blue and Gold editions at: http://deafdigest.com/newsletters/
