DeafDigest Mid-Week edition, May 15, 2014   -- a popular deaf vendor of delicious snacks Visakhapatnam is a port city in India, of over 2 million residents, located on the Bay of the Bengal. There are many shopping malls in the city; at one of these malls, there is a food stand, named Soniya Hot Chaat. The owner of this stand is Anu Popnani. He is deaf. His deafness does not matter to these customers which come to him every night, from their homes in other parts of the region! He makes from scratch – these delicacies - -- samosa, kachori, chaat, pani-puri and gulab jamun, and samosa chaat, which is his best seller!   -- subtitles vs captions! TV viewers in Australia love to watch the program called "Tangle" - which was shown in subtitles for the benefit of the deaf. This program has 10 series. The 10th and the last series was shown without subtitles due to technical difficulties. This has upset many deaf viewers, not realizing they could just turn on the captions! Why didn't they turn on the captions????????   -- deaf relay and a motorcycle repair business Leo Wyczalek, who is deaf, owns his motorcycle repair business in Seattle, Washington. He relies on deaf relay service for a high percentage of his business - these bikers that want to have their motorcycles repaired and maintained. How many deaf relay calls does he receive every day? Leo said it is between five and ten relay calls per day.
