-- a popular deaf vendor of delicious snacks
Visakhapatnam is a port city in India, of over 2 million residents,
located on the Bay of the Bengal. There are many shopping malls in
the city; at one of these malls, there is a food stand, named Soniya
Hot Chaat. The owner of this stand is Anu Popnani. He is deaf. His
deafness does not matter to these customers which come to him every
night, from their homes in other parts of the region! He makes from
scratch – these delicacies - -- samosa, kachori, chaat, pani-puri
and gulab jamun, and samosa chaat, which is his best seller!
-- subtitles vs captions!
TV viewers in Australia love to watch the program called "Tangle"
- which was shown in subtitles for the benefit of the deaf. This
program has 10 series. The 10th and the last series was shown
without subtitles due to technical difficulties. This has upset
many deaf viewers, not realizing they could just turn on the
captions! Why didn't they turn on the captions????????
-- deaf relay and a motorcycle repair business
Leo Wyczalek, who is deaf, owns his motorcycle repair
business in Seattle, Washington. He relies on deaf relay
service for a high percentage of his business - these
bikers that want to have their motorcycles repaired and
maintained. How many deaf relay calls does he receive
every day? Leo said it is between five and ten relay
calls per day. Without these relay calls, his business
