DeafDigest - 15 November 2013

DeafDigest Mid-Week edition, November 15, 2013   -- deaf trapped in confusion over shooting at airport We have read about the shooting at the Los Angeles airport on November 1st by Paul Anthony Ciancia. It caused the airport to shutdown, evacuating thousands of people. It was just learned that two of these people were deaf; they were working behind a booth at the airport to promote deaf awareness. They did not know what was going on and no one were telling them anything - just being told to get out of the building! A cruel irony - promoting deafness awareness yet hearing people were not making them aware of an emergency!   -- wearing a Gallaudet cap Reed Doughty, who has a serious hearing loss but functions as a hearing person, plays for the Washington Redskins. He was the honorary captain of the Gallaudet football team in its victorious game against Anna Maria College on November 9th. He watched the game with his family from the stands, and said it was quite an experience seeing the players and the fans communicate in sign language. He then wore the Gallaudet cap while going to the Redskins Park for football practice.   -- the best deaf real estate salesperson in USA? The New York Daily News ran a full story on deaf realtor Jackie Roth, a broker with the Douglas Elliman residential real estate brokerage. It is the largest brokerage in the metro New York area and the fourth largest in USA, with 4,000 realtors in 70 offices. The story said that Jackie is an elite producer, part of the company's Top Producers. Only 40 top realtors could make the list. This would make her the nation's top deaf realtor! We have a number of deaf realtors across USA and she outranks them.   Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/deafdigest1 Twitter: @deafdigest 11/10/13 Blue edition at: http://35.182.75.222/category/newsletter/newsletter-blue-newsletter/ 11/10/13 Gold edition at: http://35.182.75.222/category/newsletter/newsletter-gold-newsletter/
