-- Lyft knows deaf don't like thick hearing mustaches
Deaf people don't like thick mustaches for one
reason; it often hides the lips, preventing the
deaf from trying to lipread! Anyway, maybe
Lyft is taking the hint - removing the big
mustache symbol in front of their cars,
and replacing it with a deaf-friendly
read-out displays. On the back of the
displays are greetings or responses
from hearing Lyft drivers for the benefit
of deaf passengers. A picture is at:

-- four-language relay service
A relay service that communicates in four
different languages - English plus Chinese
Korean and Japanese! Not in USA, but in
Japan. The Western Japan JR Bus operates
this 4-language relay service. But it is
not a telephone relay service, but a
bus company relay service that wishes to
communicate with bus customers. It also
handles sign language telephone calls.
-- more on the deaf-owned business directory
Yesterday's DeafDigest mentioned a deaf-owned
business directory being planned in Great
Britain. A clarification - a national deaf
relay provider posted a long list of deaf-owned
businesses on a web site. For some reason
we do not know why, this web posting was
removed. Also about 20 years ago a group
of deaf leaders planned this type of
directory but never got it off the ground.
Reason was inability to get funding.
