-- a financial firm kicks out a deaf client
Prosper, a national financial firm on investments
and loans, kicked out a deaf client. He opened
an account but had some questions. He used a relay
service to contact the customer service rep.
Prosper, surprised about his deafness, demanded
he notarize his papers and documents. The deaf
client did - but Prosper still refused to accept
him back. He has filed a lawsuit.
-- confusion about watching movies
Subtitles? Open captions? Closed captions?
All same thing? No! Subtitles change foreign
films to English. Closed captions can be turned
on and off, at home or at the theater. Open
captions cannot be turned off. There were
announcements of open captions, that actally
were closed captions, and also of closed
captions that were open captions. Confusing?
Yes.
-- peace between six different relay providers
Competition is everywhere. We have six different
relay providers. But on one issue, they have
peace and agreement! New technology makes relay
equipment obsolete. Six providers had to get
together to agree on technical standards on
new relay equipment we will be using in future.
This is important because in the past there were
were problems when equipment did not work with
other equipment.
