DeafDigest - 16 October 2013

DeafDigest Mid-Week edition, October 16, 2013 -- no one audits our captions for accuracy Do we have an agency that watches captions to make sure of accuracy? No - but in Great Britain, an agency - Ofcom will be auditing the captions twice a year to see if contents are accurate. What about the FCC in USA? The FCC does not care about captioning accuracy; they only care if captions are present or missing, no matter if there are bloopers or if TV news are captioned by bad on-line captioners!     -- a funny Cochlear story headline? a Cochlear posting on a web site today ran this headline - Cochlear Confidence Falls On Deaf Ears. It was about disappointing earnings of Cochlear, the company that builds CI's. Is it telling us that a deaf device falls on deaf ears? This is why the headline was funny!     -- LoveFilm does not tell deaf if their DVDs are captioned LoveFilm is a British DVD rental company, just like our Netflix. Deaf people that rent from LoveFilm are gambling that the DVDs are captioned. The LoveFilm will not say if it is captioned or not captioned. We are lucky that LoveFilm does not do business in USA!   Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/deafdigest1 Twitter: @deafdigest 10/13/13 Blue edition at: http://35.182.75.222/category/newsletter/newsletter-blue-newsletter/ 10/13/13 Gold edition at: http://35.182.75.222/category/newsletter/newsletter-gold-newsletter/
