Hint was that other areas of India are lacking in these schools. At the Mactan-Cebu International Airport in the Philippines, employees have been taking a Deaf Culture Sensitivity Training workshop. It was given to  check-in staff, ground handlers, terminal duty officers, customer service representatives, security, and other staffers. airport The Upper House legislative body in Japan has rejected a bill that would support the rights and the needs of the deaf! It was a big shock; no one knew it was coming! There was a big story in the newspaper in Sacramento, CA about medical facilities ignoring the needs of the deaf in hospitals and medical clinics. Japan finally joins the list of nations that offer video relay services for the deaf. -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+- -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+- Dr. Steven L. They often misplace or lose them, and cannot afford new hearing aid or new CI. Same thing with deaf babies with CI. These people are careful with their laptops and iPads but not careful with their hearing aids and CI. Always a mystery! youtube video with text http://deafdigest.com/videos/careless-people/ -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+- Lip reading tale A deaf employee was complaining that her feet was getting cold. These deaf people know which restaurants are caption-friendly and which are not! What is a Caption Friendly restaurant? Captions always turned on restaurant TV sets are Caption Friendly? Restaurants that never turn on captions are not Caption Friendly! youtube video with text http://deafdigest.com/videos/caption-friendly/ -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+- COMMENTS FROM A CART OPERATOR - continuing series A stenocaptioner does not type words letter by letter.  The captioner strokes whole words and phrases on the steno machine.  The words in the dictionary in a computer-aided transcription program are matched against those steno strokes to translate them into English. Erroneous translation can sometimes occur because of other words entered in a captioner's dictionary. A captioner might have meant to write the following sentence: "As the farmer was preparing to plant his crops, he saw he could move the row bottom any direction." However, because of words entered in the captioner's dictionary, the sentence might be displayed as: "As the farmer was preparing to plant his crops, he saw he could move the robot omnidirection." -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+- For postings, announcements and employment ad rates, please email mailto:barry@deafdigest.com for Special Notes, go to the bottom of the Gold section -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+- News of the Week - Looking Back 10 Years Ago: Tony Wallace, who is deaf, just started work as the law enforcement officer in Noonah, Alaska. Politicians have for years wanted to cut 4201 funding, but have failed to do so. -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+- subscription changes, go to deafdigest.com and click on subscribe and follow the screen weekly DeafDigest Blue & Gold editions also posted at: http://deafdigest.com/ (updated every Monday) Employment ads web site is at: http://deafdigest.com/category/jobs/ -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+- -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+- DeafDigest Copyright 2016 by Barry Strassler, DeafDigest.
