-- Putin and the deaf
Do we trust Russia's Putin? Valery Rukhledev,
a deaf Russian activist, was appointed to the
United Nations Committee on the Rights of
Persons with Disabilities. What is Putin
going to do if Rukhledev becomes too
demanding with the rights and needs of
the deaf, and the disabled? Or will he
be less demanding, actually scared of
Putin? A picture is at:

-- deaf and Deaf Crows
Deaf Crows? It is not a cultural group, but a
play featured at Thom Collegiate, a school
program in Regina, Saskatchewan. Hearing
kids, while growing up do not realize
the deaf cannot play Hide and Seek,
Telephone (a whispered message game
where children pass along a message
from one ear to another ear and so on),
and other such voice-based games.
To educate the hearing public on what
the deaf can do and can't do, a play
called Deaf Crows has been produced and
shown at the school. It won newspaper
raves.
-- deaf herbs
Many people believe that herbs, by using plants,
are great medicines. Some deaf people
talk about herbs. But do we have a deaf person
that owns a herbs clinic? There is one - in
Louth, a small town in United Kingdom. It
is owned and operated by Jane Dewis, a
deaf woman. According to people that work
with herbs, she is the only deaf herbalist
in Great Britain.
