DeafDigest - 17 March 2016

DeafDigest Mid-Week edition, March 17, 2016 -- former deaf pro athlete hopes to become internet whiz Lance Allred, who is deaf, had a very short career in the NBA, as the league's only deaf player. He played for many years in pro basketball overseas before retiring last year. He has a dream - to become an internet whiz, establishing a start-up company that will drastically change the way web sites perform. Another Vint Cerf, a past deaf internet whiz? See Allred's most recent picture at: http://deafdigest.com/possible-deaf-internet-whiz/   -- a state trying to force state deaf commission A state House of Representatives passed a bill to force its state commission for the deaf and hard of hearing to provide funds for services for the deaf-blind. A deaf-blind activist explained that most state commissions for the deaf would not provide funds for deaf-blind, instead pointing to the state commission for the blind as source of funding!   -- very angry at CBS TV A deaf person is very angry at CBS TV. Everyone is excited about the Big NCAA national basketball tournament. Who will win this year? Anyway, he watches CBS and the captions, during basketball games, are always in the middle of the screen, impossible to follow the action. He has complained for ten years with CBS and with the FCC - no one listens to him. Remember FCC said captions must be placed on the right spot on the TV screen. Middle is not the right spot. And CBS has hated captions in the past, wouldn't caption during the early years in the eighties!   Latest deaf jobs: http://deafdigest.com/category/jobs/ Barry's collections of past articles (with today's update) http://deafdigest.com/collections/barrys-collections/ 03/13/16 Blue and Gold editions at: http://deafdigest.com/newsletters/
