-- a deaf restaurant in Paris
DeafDigest editor is vacationing in Paris this week. He had lunch at
Cafe Signes, a deaf restaurant in the city. Six of nine employees
are deaf. Most patrons are hearing but no problems dealing with
the deaf staff. Deaf people come to restaurant for drinks and
company after they finish work.
Look at the picture of two deaf staffers. One is showing his sign
for his name. The second one is a quiet man.

-- a disappointing update from Deaf Olympian in Deaflympics
South Africa's Terence Parkin, a past Olympics swimming
silver medalist, planned to compete in cycling in the
Deaflympics. While in training, he suffered a nasty spill
and hurt himself. He may have to withrdaw if his injury
does not heal quickly enough.
-- must text in Verizon in Rochester
Rochester has one of the highest numbers of deaf residents in USA.
For emergency needs the deaf can use text to contact the 911
Center. The problem it must be with a Verizon text; other text
providers do not have this special 911 access. Not great news
for non-Verizon text users.
