-- hearing baseball fans angry on losing games to Gallaudet
Gallaudet athletic teams face a big burden. The hearing
opponents hate to lose to Gallaudet, thinking it is a
big embarrassment to lose to a deaf team. So far this
season, Gallaudet baseball team has been winning some
big games. It resulted in hearing tweets as follows:
our baseball team lost to the deaf
CNU baseball lost to Gallaudet over the weekend?
The deaf college? How does that team call a fly ball, anyway?
These hearing fans do not realize that deaf Gallaudet coach Curtis
Pride played 11 seasons in major league baseball, and never had
problems getting calls on flyballs with his hearing teammates
-- to print a new hearing aid
Do you want to print a new hearing aid? Print? Yes. 3-D
technology is capable of building (oops, printing) a
new hearing aid! Why a printed hearing aid if we could
just go to any hearing aid dealer and buy a new one?
Suppose you find a hearing aid that you want to buy
but it is in New Zealand. The shipping costs may be
expensive. And the wait time can be too long. With
a printed hearing aid, you get it in few minutes.
Is it the best way to buy a hearing aid? No! What if
you don't like that printed hearing aid, you are
stuck with it.
-- back and forth ASL-and-text communications device
We have read about ASL software that will convert
ASL to text. We also have read about other devices
that will convert text to ASL. But what about putting
these two together? There was a demonstration at the
South By Southwest (SXSW) exposition last week in
Austin, Texas. A Microsoft engineer gave a talk
about Xbox kinetic body tracking. He said it can
help the deaf communicate with the hearing back
and forth at the same time.
