-- a bank refuses to open an account for a deaf person
HSBC is one of the world's largest banks, with branches in
85 countries, including USA. Surely there are many deaf people
that have accounts with that bank - except for one deaf woman.
She wanted to open an account at a branch in Malta, a small
island nation near the Sicilian island. She was accompanied
by a family member. The bank refused to accept the deaf woman,
even if the family member would accept responsiblity! Why?
The bank was afraid that if they explain such technical banking
terms, the deaf person would not understand! Needless to say,
the family member is very upset.
-- hearing aid dangerous for a deaf person
A deaf woman was wearing a hearing aid and suffered from a bad
ear ache. She went to the doctor. He looked at her ear and found
it was bloody. The doctor treated it with antibiotics and two
weeks later she is feeling much better. Hearing aid at fault
for her ear ache? Not really - but it was a fruit fly, somehow
attracted by the hearing aid mold, entering the ear and staying
there for a while. This is an extremely rare case, and it did not
happen in USA, but in Taiwan!
-- a deaf room in an airport
Many of us travel, and we have never seen a deaf room in any airport.
There was an announcement of a new deaf room in an airport. It is
the Dubbo City Airport in New South Wales, a state in Australia.
Exactly what is a deaf room? Don't really know but the Dubbo
Airport announcement said it was facilities for the deaf.
Interpreters? Captioned TV; captioned movies; TTY stations; sign
language clerks; sign language bartenders, assistance for non-English
speaking deaf, etc?
