-- Tom Selleck movie insulting a famous deaf person
Tom Selleck starred in the movie "Twelve Mile Road" (2003). It was
shown on Saturday night on TV. The movie captions suddenly showed
a quote which said ".....imitating Marlee Matlin....." It was so
quick that there was no time to write it down. If a quote imitates
a famous hearing person saying something funny, then it may be a
compliment. But if it imitates a famous deaf person using Deaf
Speech then it is an insult!
-- Super Bowl has one thing in common with a deaf organization
The Super Bowl is coming up, and sorry, Derrick Coleman will not
play, as he is injured and out of season. He will receive his
second Super Bowl ring if Seattle wins. Anyway, many of us
are hoping that ALL Super Bowl ads will be captioned. It has
never happened in the past. The Super Bowl has one thing
in common with ---- the National Association of the Deaf!
Why? Many advertisers save their best ads for the Super Bowl;
many deaf companies save their best products for the NAD
conference exhibit hall area.
-- invisible deaf club
Hutchinson, Kansas is a town of 40,000 people. Is there a
deaf social club in that town? This was what one person
contacted a newspaper, wanting that information. That newspaper
reached a hearing aid dealer, an independent living center,
several disabled support groups, etc. No luck! It is a
surprise that this newspaper reporter did not do a google
search. These searches would show - Kansas School for the
Deaf, Kansas Association of the Deaf, Hutchison Association
of the Deaf, Kansas Deaf News, etc. Don't know why the
reporter chose the wrong search path?
