DeafDigest - 19 September 2013

DeafDigest Mid-Week edition, September 19, 2013   -- deaf person angry at FCC The FCC allows public comments to be posted on its web site. An angry deaf person made a comment that he wished FCC to stop picking on VRS providers. He used the VRS to ask for medical assistance for a family member that needed attention. He was afraid that if more VRS providers shut down then it makes harder for the deaf to get emergency assistance (police, fire, medical).     -- the cops that laugh at a deaf man A deaf man was arrested for something he didn't know why. He asked for an interpreter and wanted to know the reason for the arrest. The cops refused to provide him with an interpreter and in fact, laughed at him! The cops roughed him up when he repeatedly asked for the interpreter. Even the judge was puzzled why there was no interpreter for him. For that reason, he has filed a lawsuit.     -- a magazine says deafness is a problem in sports The Biology of Sport magazine said that deafness may prevent athletes from developing their skills to become elite performers. True? No. Curtis Pride played major league baseball. Jim Kyte played major league hockey. Lance Allred played major league basketball and right now, we have a new major league football player in Derrick Coleman. We've had past Olympic champions that were deaf.   Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/deafdigest1 Twitter: @deafdigest 09/15/13 Blue edition at: http://35.182.75.222/category/newsletter/newsletter-blue-newsletter/ 09/15/13 Gold edition at: http://35.182.75.222/category/newsletter/newsletter-gold-newsletter/
