-- a strange way for a deaf child to learn how to speak
In Australia, a deaf child learned how to speak.
The method was somewhat strange. He did not have
speech tutors. He did not learn how to speak from
teachers at a deaf school. He just took a correspondence
course to learn how to speak. Does DeafDigest editor
believe that newspaper story? Very skeptical!
-- Sending deaf children to a school in Sweden
Unhappily for all of us, war is going on in
Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria. Many people have
tried to flee their nations to seek peace
elsewhere. For some reason some families
have not been able to escape. As a result,
some of them with deaf children would send
them - alone and all by themselves - to a
deaf school in Sweden! Unlike some other
European nations, the Swedish Migration Agency
accepts all refugees, deaf included!
