-- a host warns a deaf person
Jeff Probst, the host of the Survivor 2015 No Collar Tribe,
Nargarote, has warned Nina Poersch, the deaf contestant
on this reality TV program. Jeff said "Nina is going to
have a tough time." Why? Jeff said it has nothing to do
with her deafness or her age, but because she is
entering a culture that is so new to her. While Jeff
won't say it, this may mean Nina will be quickly
eliminated!
-- future interpreters from a scary background
At the Elayn Hunt Correctional Center in Gabriel,
Louisiana, a group of prisoners is learning ASL.
Their goal is to become ASL interpreters when
they are released from prison and seek employment.
Scary or not scary? DeafDigest thinks it is a great
way for prisoners to get employment, because many
employers won't give them jobs - and yet, demand
for interpreters is always high. This prison is
the only one in the nation offering this ASL
program.
-- two different English subtitles options
Some Blu-ray discs have two subtitle options.
One is English option and the other is
English subtitles. What is the difference?
It is a BIG difference. With the English
option, it shows English subtitles only
if the actors speak a foreign language
in an English language movie. The English
subtitles option shows full English
subtitles throughout the movie. A
movie critic said two subtitle options
is unusual.
