-- young deaf man wants a military career
During the Civil War, we had many deaf fighters
on both sides - the North and the South. Since then,
it became impossible for the deaf to serve in
the military. Trying to convince the Pentagon
that the deaf can fight is Cole Moore, who is deaf.
He served in his high school Naval JROTC program,
rising to the second in command. He has asked
U.S. Rep. Renee Ellmers, R-2nd District (NC)
to use her political influence to help him enroll.

-- deaf banned as immigrants
In one nation, the immigration law, in part, says:
"bans the entry of any person who is deaf and dumb
or deaf and blind, or dumb and blind"
It is Belize, a small Central American nation.
Keep in mind Belize has deaf people, but they
are native-born, not naturalized citizens.
-- federal judge turns down Indiana's discrimination
Last week Indiana appealed the ruling which said the
state discriminated against a deaf person by refusing
to give him an interpreter during a child custody
case. Indiana appealed - and the federal judge ruled
against Indiana. Will Indiana go to the Supreme
Court, claiming that their judge that discriminated
was correct with it? This may be important, so lets'
hope Indiana gives up and goes away.
