-- a CI is hacked into
A TV show shown last night, Person of Interest, had a CI plot. It
involved a person, named the Root, being forcibly implanted with
a hacked CI by enemy Big Computer Machine. The enemy wanted to
prevent Root from accessing this computer. This is a strange
twist, because CI is implanted in deaf individuals, not in hearing
individuals. But again, it is just a TV story!
-- a strange deaf law in Oregon
In Beaverton, Oregon, there is a new law. Drivers must stop their
cars at intersections if they see a deaf person walking through.
How would the driver know if the walking person is deaf if there
is no hearing aid or no CI or no communicating in sign language
with someone? Is the deaf person supposed to carry a large sign
saying "I am deaf" to alert hearing drivers?
-- a country needs 11,763 interpreters
In New Delhi, India, there are 11,763 different voting booths
across this big city. The elections commissioner has ordered
11,763 interpreters to stand by, one for each voting booth.
DeafDigest wonders if New Delhi really has that many interpreters
that are fluent, and not just gesticulating with their hands
and fingers? After all, India has many different languages!
