-- deaf and hearing in theater; same thing
Actress Camryn Manheim, a veteran performer with many
acting roles to her credit, is acting with Deaf West
right now on the Broadway. She said:
Any deaf person can come to the theater, any hearing person
can come to the theater, and they will get the exact same
experience
She is correct. She once served as ASL interpreter before
moving on with her acting career.
-- getting away by mocking ADA
Many companies obey the ADA, but at the same time
mock ADA. Why? They obey the ADA by just meeting
the minimum standards! But to go above minimum
standards, they won't. A perfect example? We
want open captions; movie theateres say ADA
approves portable devices, that we all hate!
So, is ADA a joke? Yes and no, sad to say.
