DeafDigest - 21 July 2015

DeafDigest Mid-Week edition, July 21, 2015 morning -- a deaf woman taught how to scream Deaf people tend to speak loud because they can't hear their own voices and have problems controlling the tones. Well, Emma Meesseman, who is deaf (but functions as a hearing person) is a member of the Washington Mystics professional women's team. As the tallest player on the team, she is responsible for shouting out defensive signals. Her teammates were complaining that she didn't shout loud enough. One of her teammates had to teach her in private how to scream so that everyone on the floor could hear her!   -- a crisis among captioners There is a crisis in the captioning field that many of us do not know about. The National Court Reporters Association (which involves captioners) is saying that many captioners are retiring from the field and that there are not enough new captioners to replace them! This association also says it is a perfect field for high school graduates that can type very fast.     past Mid-Week & morning editions: http://deafdigest.com/category/mid-week-news/   7/19/15 Blue and Gold editions at: http://deafdigest.com/newsletters/
