-- a flashing bracelet for the deaf
A flashing bracelet for the deaf? If a certain 8th grader
has his way, it will be the next deaf device. This
bracelet, hung on the door knob, will flash red signals
if it smells fire nearby. This, and other 8th grade
projects, is part of a Science Contest taking place in
Denver.
-- diner patrons unaware of manager's deafness
In Post Falls, Idaho, a town of some 28,000 people, locals eat
at the downtown diner. The manager of the diner is deaf. It
is a fact that many patrons have not been aware of it. They
shout at him, demanding coffee or ketchup or if the dish
was not what they wanted, and he walks away. They get
angry, thinking the manager ignores them. He doesn't ignore
them, just not being made aware of their complaints and
requests. This was the issue brought up in a local newspaper.
