-- USA's first deaf-owned brewery
We have a deaf-owned brewery in New Zealand,
but not so in USA. This will change.
Ian Cameron, who is deaf, is opening up
his own brewery in East Mesa, Arizona.
Name of the brewery is Lochiel Brewing
Company. His ancestors are from Scotland,
hence the reason for the name - Lochiel.
Some of the beers he plans to brew is
Scottish-style ale and extra-special bitter.

-- possible DeafTown in Pennsylvania
We have had several failed DeafTown
efforts. Will there be a DeafTown
in Pennsylvania, in the Pocono
region? There was a announcement, though
a quiet one, by a deaf organization
about their planned DeafTown. They
said they are working with realtors,
developers, and investors right now.
While the exact location in the Pocono
region is not publicly known, DeafDigest
editor knows of a deaf person that
owns a large piece of land in the
area.
-- deafness was reason for not-guilty verdict
In Great Britain, two deaf sisters committed
a horrific crime. They were arrested and
went through a court trial. Everyone felt
they would be convicted and sentenced to
lifetime prison terms. The judge let them
go, all charges dropped. His reason -
they are deaf and would have problems dealing
with hardened convicts in a prison
atmosphere.
The Deaf Community isn't too happy about it.
