DeafDigest Mid-Week edition, July 22, 2014   -- The Ape Sign Language Many of us have watched the "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" and have noticed that the apes' sign language was much better than the original "Planet of Apes" movies (1968 and 2001). New Orleans interpreter Shari Bernius spent a lot of time teaching these "ape-actors" some signs. As a result we were able to follow some of their signed phrases.     -- Marlee Matlin and James Garner All-time popular actor James Garner has departed us. Has Marlee Matlin ever participated in a movie with him? Yes. It was a 1997 movie - Dead Silence. It was about three jail escapees holding deaf students as hostages. Garner played the role of a FBI agent and Marlee as the teacher of these deaf children.       -- The most difficult deaf postal card to obtain Over the years there have been many deaf stamps and deaf postal cards.
