Getting estimates for the deaf is quite a hassle,
even with interpreters or relay services. At the
The South by Southwest conference, a new texting
device was introduced. It allows the deaf
to send estimate requests to local contractors.
Deaf users could even attach pictures to explain
things better with these contractors.
-- freelance interpreters are employees
Are freelance interpreters just freelancers or are
they employees? It is an issue being discussed
among interpreters in one state. Some agencies
have been incorrectly classifying them as
freelancers whereas they should have been
employees. A veteran interpreter said that almost
all of these such interpreters are actually
employees. He stressed it is important because
IRS has closed a few agencies for that reason.
