-- bad job better than no job or not
Many deaf people have a hard time finding jobs.
When they finally find a job, is it great news?
It all depends. Will the job lead to future
salary increases and opportunities for promotion
or is it a bad-salary job with no accommodations
for them?
-- a big gamble by a deaf political candidate
DeafDigest mentioned a while ago that Sudeep Shukla,
who is deaf and is a software engineer in India,
is campaigning for election for a seat on the
state assembly and that the newspapers simply
described him as deaf-mute. Anyway, he has taken
a big gamble - quitting his job (with a good salary)
to devote full time to campaigning. Will he get back
his job if he doesn't win the election? This worries
DeafDigest.
-- Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the deaf
Computer scientists are saying that artificial
intelligence can create robots that are
super-lipreaders, much better than human beings.
DeafDigest does not believe it, because accents
are often difficult to lipread.
