-- our Gallaudet bourbon
Gallaudet getting into hard liquor distilling
business? No - but two hearing women (that know
no ASL) has designed a new logo for the
bourbon distillery they are planning to
establish not too far from Gallaudet. They
said the logo is a way to honor Gallaudet
and the Deaf Heritage in the neighborhood.
The logo is at:

-- sign language or gestures by Starbucks barista
the newspapers today are full of stories of a Starbucks
hearing barista in Leesburg, VA wanting to learn ASL to
communicate with a deaf patron. ASL or just a few coffee
gestures? ASL is a complete langauge; gestures are just
short, simple and often home-made to get the message
across. Starbucks, by the way, has a few deaf baristas.
-- FCC says "Shared Responsibility" on captions
FCC boss Tom Wheeler says captions are "shared
responsiblity" by video providers. Yes, but there
is more to what he said. Shared responsibility
that Wheeler did not mention is making sure
all captions do not block the scoreboards of
athletic events; making sure captions will
show up instead of taking for granted; making
sure captions are clear, not fuzzy or blurred.
When captions go bad or do not show up, there
are always someone that messed it up - and
TV people are forever pointing fingers at
each other!
