-- an amazing deaf photographer
Brenden Borrellini, from Brisbane, Australia, is deaf and is a
photographer. And he is amazing. Why? He is not just deaf
but is also deaf-blind! How could a deaf-blind photographer
take pictures of things he cannot see? He is completely blind,
without limited vision. He uses a specially adapted camera
that allows him to feel the buttons and instruments. And he
receives feedback of the scene through a device that converts
text to braille. This way - before he snaps the picture he
knows the composition, light, shutter openings and depth.
Does it work? People have praised the pictures he cannot
see but have taken!
-- a horror interpreter story
What is a horror interpreter story? In Victoria, which is
Australia's biggest state, a deaf woman was assaulted by
her hearing husband. The police came over, and was not
able to communicate because of her deafness. What did the
police do? They asked the deaf woman's abusive husband to
serve as her interpreter! Yes, you read it right. The
Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission
is very angry about it and is conducting an investigation.
-- this year's most popular deaf short film
What is the most popular deaf short film? It is "Silent
Melody" that is directed by Prasanth Varma. He has been
honored as the most promising film director at a recent
film convention in Atlanta. Why is that film so popular?
It already has nearly 20,000,000 web hits!
