- a famous deaf swimmer rescues a boy from drowning
Terence Parkin, a well known deaf swimmer from South
Africa, who participated in the hearing Olympics and
the Deaflympics, is a hero. He was teaching a class
of hearing swimmers when he saw a 7-year old kid
nearly drown after his arm was stuck in a pool vent.
Terence pulled him out and applied cardiopulmonary
resuscitation (CPR) until emergency personnel arrived.

- past North Carolina football great inducted into county
hall of fame
Charles Crowe, a hard charging running back of these great
North Carolina School for the Deaf football teams of the
early sixties, was inducted into the Burke County Sports
Hall of Fame. He played on the 1960 team that finished
runner ups in state Class 1A playoffs.

- a deaf dancer in "Live to Dance" competition
Christina Sarni, a deaf woman of Millstone Township,
New Jersey, is a skilled dancer. Her dance has impressed
Paula Abdul, who told her she was among the best she
has ever seen. Unfortunately Abdul was outvoted by two
other judges on the tryout panel. Not giving up,
Christine will continue to dance competitively.

Buckingham Place and was on TV series
Sean Chandler, Liverpool, England, is deaf and plays
the trumpet, cornet and flugelhorn. He played the
trumpet as part of the 12-people band that played
at Buckingham Palace. Prince Harry was in attendance
during the concert. This band was also part of a
short TV series.
- a 65-employee courier company, all deaf, in Mumbai, India
Mirakle Couriers delivers important papers and documents
to offices in all parts of Mumbai. This city is the largest
in India. It also is the leading financial, commercial and
entertainment center in India. The deaf men in Mirakle Couriers
do the delivery of papers and packages and the deaf women
work on the computers. These deaf workers were hired from
the poorest sections of Mumbai to give them meaningful
employment with a future.
