-- TV news anchor that knows sign language
A newspaper in Colorado Springs announced the hiring
of Scott Kilbury, a veteran newscaster, as the
weekend anchor of a local TV news program. The
story said that he is fluent in ASL. If he is
really that fluent, then why cannot he use
signs at the same time he voices out the
local news? Yes, the news is captioned but
there are deaf people that prefer signs, not
captions. A picture is at:

-- skipping the 2017 Deaflympics
The USA national deaf women's soccer team, which won the
Deaf World Soccer championship this past summer, will not
be taking part in the 2017 Deaflympics in Turkey. Reason
is terrorism in parts of Turkey that has scared off
the players.
Will it lead to other American deaf sports groups also
skipping 2017 Deaflympics?
Stay tuned!
-- carnivals and the deaf
Americans love carnivals and fairs. Great food,
Great rides, so much fun everywhere. But do
deaf people get as much out of these events
as much as hearing people do? This was the
issue raised by Bobbi Long of the William
Jessup University in Rocklin, California.
She said:
Most carnivals, deaf and hard of hearing do
not have access to be able to communicate
directly with the people that are running the booth
