HEARING EMPLOYEE TELLING A LIE
A new deaf employee, confused about the job
assignments, asked a hearing employee for
help and advice.
The hearing employee replied:
I am sorry. I don't understand the work assignment
you are doing
It forced the deaf employee to find another
hearing employee for help and advice.
Few months later, the deaf employee realized
that the first hearing employee knew everything
but said "I don't understand" just to avoid
communicating with a deaf person!
It is sad that some hearing employees will
lie to a deaf employee.

Lip reading tale
The deaf person thought the hearing person said:
I hear a Zimmer in the kitchen
A person named Zimmer standing in the kitchen???
The hearing person actually said:
I hear a simmer in the kitchen
He was listening for the cooking pot near the boiling point!

WHITE OR BLACK CAPTIONS
At home, our captions are often black, because it
is easy to read.
At many bars and restaurants the captions are either
white or yellow. Why?
Possibly because hearing people, watching TV are bothered
by black captions but not bothered by light color captions.

COMMENTS FROM A CART OPERATOR - continuing series
As you are considering whether to use remote CART or onsite CART in a high school or university setting, you will find that remote CART also has many advantages.
For remote CART, the student would bring a laptop into the classroom and connect via the Internet with a CART captioner who is located at some other location. There would be a microphone or microphones in the classroom so that the captioner could hear what was going on over a phone line or Internet connection.
One of the advantages of remote CART is that it is sometimes more affordable because you do not have the travel time and setup involved as you would with onsite CART.
If a student is moving from classroom to classroom, sometimes remote CART is easier because the captioner does not have to move all of the CART equipment from one location to another location. Everything onsite is done by the student, so there is no outside person involved onsite.
Another advantage is, if you do not have an experienced CART captioner in your area, any CART captioner anywhere in the country could cover the assignment. It could be especially helpful in a rural area where there are no CART captioners.

News of the Week - Looking Back 10 Years Ago:
Election Day is coming up sooner than what we expect.
And in Eureka City, CA, there was a poster that asks
residents to vote for Deaf Jeff Leonard as city
councilman.
Not quite. Candidate Leonard is not deaf but vandalism
and defacing being what these are, he was portrayed to
be deaf.
He became hearing again when the defaced sign was thrown
out.

News of the Week - Looking Back 5 Years Ago:
Sally Keyrouz, a deaf saleswoman at the MySize, a clothing
store for women in Australia, is quite popular with hearing
patrons. She knows how to help the patrons select right
clothing with right colors and right designs. As described
by an associate, she is efficient, passionate and helpful.
She did not start out to work at the clothing store, as her
previous jobs were dead ends - mostly distributing mail
at offices. Her boss said:
Sally is very good at putting customers at ease, especially as
many of our customers have body image issues
