- Midwives learning sign language

Hearing women attending classes at De Montfort University
(England) traing for careers at midwives, are learning
sign language. The university spokesperson said that midwives
are accountable under the new Equality Act that requires
them to offer best and nondiscriminatory care to patients,
including deaf patients.


- Jennifer Beals telling Marlee Matlin

Famous hearing actress Jennifer Beals will not compete in
'Dancing With the Stars' TV series. She was surprised that
Marlee Matlin was able to compete because of deafness.

She told Marlee:
You don't know how lucky you are you can't hear this. The
noise level is so intense and people's excitement level is
so intense, I could never do it.

Marlee finished 6th place last time.


- a warning for deaf smokers

Smokers, both deaf and hearing, know about these warnings -
lung cancer, heart problems, stroke, etc. But would deaf
smokers stop smoking if it may lead to blindness?

This was the warning issued by Iyaad Hasan, director of the
Tobacco Treatment Center at the Cleveland Clinic.

- The mystery involving two individuals with the Deaflympics group

According to sources, Mark Dolley, the new Deaflympics group CEO,
is hard of hearing, and is an American citizen. He, however, has
been living in London. He is well known in the hearing International
Olympic Committee circles but is a stranger in the Deaflympics circles.
And, he does not use sign language.

And of Jaromir Ruda, the Slovakian who wrecked the Winter Deaflympics,
forcing the cancellation, he signs fluently, but no one knows if he
is hearing or is hard of hearing. And he is said to be one of the
wealthiest individuals in Eastern Europe. He was recently arrested
by Slovakian police.

Ah, the mystery continues.
