In an effort to improve healthcare for Deaf patients in the Philippines, medical students at the University of the Philippines have just released a new sign language handbook called MediSIGN. This guide focuses on health-related terms in Filipino Sign Language (FSL) and aims to remove the communication barriers that occur between Deaf patients and medical professionals.
On day four of the Paris Paralympics, a Deaf athlete named Danielle Aitchison from New Zealand, won a silver medal in the women's 200m sprint. Aitchison finished just 0.14 seconds behind Yiting Shi of China, who set a new Paralympic record with a time of 27.50 seconds and won gold. Despite her best efforts and a strong finish, Aitchison was narrowly edged out by Shi, who was aiming for a third consecutive Paralympic title in this event.

The Institute for the Deaf of Turin in Italy will host its first Academy Week from September 15-21, 2024. This is a significant event for Deaf participants across Europe. The program, hosted at the newly opened Academy building, will be held entirely in International Sign. Academy Week will include several focused sessions: “Erasmus Me” will teach participants how to apply for and manage Erasmus+ projects, covering essential procedures and strategies for international collaboration.
There was a European camp for the Deaf-Blind in Germany recently. Upon arrival, all participants familiarized themselves with a tactile map of the camp and memorized the locations. For 8 days, they had lectures on various important topics, master classes, an exhibition, and a cultural evening where they presented about their countries and dishes. They used translation, special text on the screen, and the help of assistants. During the event, they walked in the park, swam in the pool, and jumped on a trampoline.
After the incident at the Salerno festival in Italy, when three Deaf members of the Italian club “Deaf Bones Motorcycle” were shot. Unfortunately, two died and could not be saved in the hospital. The funeral was attended by many people. Now there is a struggle for the survival of the third member of the club.
